The long break from school this coming summer is a challenge to
parents on what they should plan for their children, so they will
not get bored with so much free time on their hands. Their unique
kids backpacks could be a useful item that should keep them
busy throughout the day, and help them get to bed early after a
day of fun and work at the same time.
One way to keep the kids busy the whole day this coming vacation
is to set up gardening activities in your yard for them to learn
something about the soil. Kids of the modern world do not seem to
know much anymore about the basics of gardening and the care of
plants in general. Yet the two most recent worldwide problems confronting
man now have something to do with the soil.
The first problem, global warming, is a very recent phenomenon unknown
before to the world, but now a reality fast becoming into a major
environmental problem for mankind. Global warming will bring about
major climate changes worldwide that could change the lifestyles
of people in many countries.
The other problem, food shortage worldwide, will next ensue with
the rising global temperatures. The climate change will affect crop
planting of food staples like wheat, corn and rice because of the
higher world temperatures resulting from global warming.
While world media may be trying to bring awareness of this twin
problem to people, it would be best for people in the big cities
to experience for themselves what our forefathers did, working with
the soil as their primary source of livelihood in their time. Now,
not many people stay in the farms, producing the food for our tables.
The farmers out there in the rural areas will bear the bad effects
of this new world phenomenon of rising temperatures, because they
may not be able to produce enough food, especially for those people
in the cities.
That is why the thrust of this piece is really a movement of going
back to the basics, especially in food production. When people start
rioting for food, that will bring a host of untold hardships not
even experienced in the last two World Wars.
We have to start with our young children, educating them as early
as possible on how to help produce food.
This summer, fill up their kids
backpacks with all kinds of seeds for gardening activities,
maybe right in your yard, or in the summer camping area you might
want to go for your annual summer camp out. Exposing the kids early
to the soil this way in actual work activities is definitely much
more effective than just viewing telecasts of farming or gardening
activities.
It will give them a new sense that their camping
backpacks could mean much more than just being carrying equipment
for fun items for the vacation. The seeds they will be bringing
around in their backpacks will make your kids realize that the seeds
are the start of life itself, deserving of their youthful respect
and support.
